Lack of firepower worries Nomads

TNM Super League champions Be Forward Wanderers team manager Stevie Madeira has said the team’s lack of firepower upfront is a cause for worry.

Out of their five pre-season games so far, the Nomads have only won one against fellow TNM Super League side Mafco FC 1-0.

Madeira: The team’s lack of firepower upfront is a cause for worry.

The other four games have been against either lower league or non-league sides which have ended in draws, the latest  being against Mitundu United and Dedza Young Soccer which ended one-all and goalless, respectively on Saturday and Sunday.

The Nomads also drew against Nsanje-based non-league side Trouble Makers and Mangochi Select.

Said Madeira: “Our major concern is that apart from Mafco, we have played small teams and we have failed to beat them.

“The defence is tight, the midfield is in good shape, but it is upfront where we are struggling and yet we boast of some of the best strikers in the land.

“We also have this attitude problem when we are playing small teams. We tend to underrate them.”

The Nomads team manager said they are now seriously considering beefing up their striking force.

“We do not have much time because this weekend we are supposed to play in the Chifundo Charity Shield before the league kicks off the other week and we appear not to be ready,” he said.

However, veteran forward Esau Kanyenda played down the goal drought, saying: “We will pick up. By the time the season starts, we should be in shape. It could be the effects of a long season.” n
